CLJ 5500 (C9656A). Base model, features:
— multipurpose tray (Tray 1) that holds up to 100 sheets of various print media or 20 envelopes and a 500-sheet paper feeder (Tray 2) that supports various paper sizes. It also supports optional 500-sheet paper feeders (Trays 3 and 4).

— parallel and network ports for connectivity. The printer also contains three enhanced input/output (EIO) slots, a FIR connection, and a standard type c bidirectional parallel cable interface (IEEE-1284 compliant).

— 96 megabytes (MB) of synchronous dynamic random access memory (SDRAM). To allow for memory expansion, the printer has three 168-pin DIMM slots that accept 64, 128, or 256 MB RAM each. This printer can support up to 416 MB of memory. An optional hard disk drive is available.

CLJ 5500dn (C9657A). Base model plus HP Jetdirect EIO internal print server for Fast Ethernet 10/100Base-TX, automatic two-sided printing.

CLJ 5500dtn (C9658A). Base model with 160 MB of SDRAM, plus HP Jetdirect EIO internal print server for Fast Ethernet 10/100Base-TX, automatic two-sided printing, additional 500-sheet input tray, stand.
