GENERAL INFORMATION

The big sisters of the SX engine are the LBP-RX and LBP-TX. The TX is a dual-tray printer. Each tray is the same size as the single-tray SX and holds a maximum of 200 sheets.

The LBP-RX is also a dual-tray printer, but it has the added capability of duplex printing, meaning that it can automatically reverse the paper and print on the second side. QMS (Imagen Corp) and Electronic Forms Systems were two of the few OEMs who incorporated OEM VDO versions of the RX and TX engine into their products.

REFURBISHED PRINTERS AVAILABLE

The Printer Works can build Canon LBP-TX and LBP-RX VDO printers from parts at special request. Refurbished printers are in like-new condition and come with a full-one-year warranty. For a price quote, select the printer's part number in the ordering information table.

TONER

The Canon LBP-RX and LBP-TX VDO printers use the same toner cartridges as all other SX-based printers.

PAPER HANDLING

The Canon LBP-RX and LBP-TX VDO printers use the same shaped paper trays and high-capacity feeders as all other SX-based printers. All versions are physically interchangeable, but there are slight color differences. (See also Diagram 300.)

CONTROLLER UPGRADE OPTIONS

To avoid changing the bottom pan and interface, a QMS JetScript controller or other external controller can be used. The Printer Works offers JetScript kits at very reasonable prices.

In order to upgrade a VDO printer by adding an internal controller the printer must be first converted to the appropriate PCB or PCB FC version. The LBP-TX VDO can be converted into a QMS-PS 820 or a QMS-PS 820 turbo by changing the bottom pan and adding a fan to cool the internal controller. The control panel is the same.

LBP RX VDO printers can be easily converted into functional equivalents of HP LaserJet IID or IIID printers. The Canon LBP-8 Mark IIIR is also an excellent controller option for upgrading any RX printer. For more information, see the detailed discussion of each of these printer models.
