The power interlock assembly controls all AC power loads. It contains the main power switch, door safety switch, AC noise filter, and circuit breaker. The interlock assembly also contains a circuit board, called the AC driver, which controls power output to the fixing assembly, cooling fan, and power transformer. The AC driver is shown in Diagram 962.

There are basically three versions of the Power Interlock Assembly. This diagram shows all of the parts for the two 115V versions. One comes with the AC line cord permanently attached, the other has a connector for a removable power cord. The 220V version, shown in Diagram 122, always uses a removable power cord.

The most common version in the U.S.A. is the 115V version, with the gray AC line cord permanently attached. This version was used on the Canon LBP-8 A1/A2, HP 2686A (but not the 2686D), all QMS CX-based printers, all Federal Express Zap Mailers and derivatives, as well as all Cordata and others that used the standard Canon OEM VDO engines.

The other two versions featured a disconnectable line cord and they were used by Apple and Wang. The power switch differs between the Apple version and the Wang version, both in the color of the power switch and the direction of movement. The Apple cover (item 4) is vented like the CXD and Wang versions. All CXD printers (such as the HP 2686D, QMS PS-800 II, QMS Big KISS II and EFS Formwriter) also used the disconnectable power cord version with the gray switch. All Canon CXD-based and Wang printers were supplied with gray AC power line cords. Apple initially provided white cords with the white printers and then switched to gray when the cover color was changed to gray.
